R | K Lawyers Settle Lawsuit Against Miss. Dept. of Public Safety Shortly After Filing Compaint.

March 2023 – Reynolds | Kirschberg attorneys Jeff Reynolds and Jason Kirschberg, on behalf of Police Benevolent Association Member Peter Butler, sued the Miss. Dept. of Public Safety for violating Miss. Code Sections 25-3-93(5) and 25-3-95(6) (among other claims), by improperly requiring that Officer Butler use his accrued personal and medical leave while recovering from an injury sustained in the line of duty. Messrs. Kirschberg and Reynolds filed the Complaint in September 2022 and, prior to filing an Answer, the Dept. of Public Safety requested that Mr. Butler consider a settlement. By March 2023, Messrs. Kirschberg and Reynolds extracted a settlement exceeding the value of Officer Butler’s lost accrued leave time. See Butler v. Miss. Dept. of Public Safety, No. 1:22-cv-602 (Hinds County Circuit Court.)
